My Inspirations

Keep working day in and day out just to get through the week is in itself very tiresome, one cant help thinking as to why anyone has to do this? For me personally, my motivation is the future itself and what it holds for me. If its not work, it is the kids at home or trouble with your partner. To deal with all of this, one requires a lot of patience and optimistic thinking. I believe that we have been given One Life which we can live however we chose to. We can either brood and curse or make memories and leave happy. Its all about the choices people make that make them feel the way they do and do the things they do. Once your gone, you are non existent. So I just need to remember this, and things around me start to fall into place.

Electricity

Personal Handy-phone System mobiles and modems...

In all of history, I believe that the invention I am most fond of is Electricity, most preferably the light bulb. I cannot even begin to imagine what anyone would or could have done without it. Everything would primarily rely on sunlight and all work would have to be wrapped up by sundown making us very very dependant. All sources of modern communication from a mobile phone to public transport, depend primarily on light to get basic things done. Can we imagine a train or an airplane commuting at night? Or us checking our mobile phone messages after 7pm? All of it would have just not been possible without Electricity.

1975

I would love to live in 1975 England.  Based on what I’ve seen on old English television programs, that was a very groovy time!  No mobiles buzzing in your pocket all the time and no video games to distract you.  Computer technology was in its infancy; no one had a PC or Mac in their home then.  (Mind you, I’d buy a bit of stock in Microsoft and laugh all the way to the bank.)  Music was found on radios or vinyl records and it was incredible.  You could still let your kids play in the streets or let them walk to school, to a friend’s home, or even down to the corner shops for a quart of milk.  Better yet, your milk was delivered to you. If time travel were a reality I would leave my mobile behind in a heartbeat so I could go to London in 1975.  I’d take a job in an office somewhere, perhaps as a bookkeeper, and buy a small home just outside the city.  I’d finally have a simpler life with only the distractions of work, a turntable, and perhaps a charming girl with dark hair who made me laugh and appreciated Monty Python’s Flying Circus as much as I do.

Keeping Your House Safe

Most people will never bother fire-proofing their house since a house fire is “one of those things that always happens to others”, right? Wrong. House fires kill and injure thousands yearly and destroy valuable possessions. Unfortunately only a few people inspect their homes and most importantly, only few buy fire extinguishers for home. There are different types of fire but there are extinguishers that can be used against more than one type making them vital components to home safety. There should be at least one on each floor, ideally one in every room in the house. Fire is not invincible as long as we are prepared.

One of My Exes is From Texas…the Rest Are Ohioans

One of my exes is from Dallas, Texas.  She’s the only “good ex” I have.  The others are a much different story. One ex in particular hails from Dayton, Ohio.  She’s a fair amount older than I am and would remind me of it nearly every day.  She would then keep me up half the night telling me what a pain life was and how I knew nothing about anything. I almost wouldn’t mind running into this ex just to tell her how much better life is without her whining and complaining.  I’d also tell her about how much better I feel now that I’ve quit smoking and drinking.  Then I would tell her how depressing and irritating it was to listen to her all those nights, especially when she would speak down to me as if I were a child.  I would then shake my head slowly, sigh heavily, and tell her that although I have forgiven her for so many things, I could not forget them.  That was – and is – why I do not want her in my life anymore, even as a friend.

My Father’s Lap

As a small child I used to wake up every weekday morning at six and wander into the kitchen, where my father would be sipping a cup of coffee and getting ready to leave for work.  I would climb into his lap and we’d talk before he’d leave.  Later when he came home from work we would often sit together in the same reclining chair and he’d cuddle me while we watched M*A*S*H. I’m an adult now and can no longer fit in my father’s lap.  He can still hold me close while we watch M*A*S*H or some other television program, but it’s not the same.  I often wish I could go back in time and know that comfort and warmth again, just for a few hours longer, while Hawkeye has another drink with BJ.

Where to Go and What to Do?

Isaac Newton in old age in 1712, portrait by S...

I’ve asked myself this many times in life.  Where do I go and what do I do?  I keep hoping an answer will fall from the sky and smack me on the head in much the same way that apple bonked Isaac Newton.  So far my skull is intact and I have no ideas. The only current goals I seek are addressing my weight and returning to college.  I’ve been overweight most of my life and due to recent health issues I know I need to do something about it.  I’ve taken a stand by changing my diet and adopting a more active lifestyle when health and weather permit it.  As far as college, I have yet to even fill out my financian aid forms.  I’m guilty of that terrible crime of procrastination.  But at least I can say I’m already looking leaner and feeling stronger.  So that goal is certainly coming along nicely.  As far as college, I shall have to buckle down and tackle it.  If I put my mind to it I can do anything I want! But first I think I’ll watch a bit of television.  I’ll deal with the procrastination later.

Plaguing mankind

Fire like the earthquakes is another climate that has been plaguing mankind from very early times. Big enough to cover the flame aim the fire extinguisher and/or fire hose reels at the base of the flames and sweep the area. Loose clothing does not wearer. Fire-resistant safest clothing is 100% cotton, both 100% cotton are common fire play garb. Other cloth treated with fire retardant, they must always be dry. Cleaned, never washed. Natural materials for cotton, silk will eventually be absorbed. Water extinguishers are safest and best, but they are large, heavy and relatively expensive to buy and recharge wears safety glasses over them.

2006 to 2011

The last five years of my life could certainly have been spent doing better things.  I spent a lot of that time either drinking or being with people who I thought were my friends.  If I could turn back time I would walk away from my so-called “mates” and seek individuals with better values and integrity.  I would seek a different college and choose a much different major; originally I had chosen accounting, then switched to pharmacology.  Knowing what I know now I would never have set foot in Lanier Technical College.  I would have gritted my teeth and attended Gainesville State, majoring in computer science and programming.  By now I would have a Bachelour’s Degree and perhaps have a real job instead of making sandwiches in a café. Hindsight is often twenty-twenty, but it can be blinding, too.

A Fortnight of Life

Fish and chips

Should I ever receive such horrible news that I only have two weeks left to me, they would be spent doing something I always wanted to do; travel to England to walk the same paths my ancestors walked hundreds of years ago. I have few regrets in my life, but the one that I would address would simply be the fact that I’ve never been a very bold person.  I’m very passive and shy; I rarely speak up for myself or ask for what I want.  Perhaps it is fear or maybe it’s a learned behaviour from childhood.  At the point where I received my “death sentence”, it really wouldn’t matter much.  However, I would stand up at that point and do whatever it took to get to London, England.  My valuables would be sold, my cremation arrangements would be made, and then I would be on a plane to Heathrow.  I would travel the country, see things my foremothers saw, have a meal of real British fish and chips, then visit Golders Green and seek the final resting place of John Inman, Britain’s best pantomime dame.
